🗺️Expeditions

During Expeditions, players explore Wanderworld in a resource gathering mini-game, searching for artifacts and resources while defending against Smogglers and other dangers.

  1. Preparation Phase:

    • Equip Gear: Players equip their Wanderbot with shields, weapons, and tools using items earned or purchased in the main game.

  2. Exploration Phase:

    • Procedural Generation: The game map is procedurally generated and divided into a grid of small area blocks.

    • Movement: Players move their Wanderbot from block to block. Each movement consumes energy, which can be replenished using found resources.

    • Shield Deployment: Players deploy shields on blocks to protect their Wanderbot while searching for resources. Shields have limited charges and can be damaged by attacks from Smogglers and creatures.

  3. Search and Combat Phase:

    • Searching Blocks: While a shield is active, players can search the block for resources and artifacts. This process takes time, is represented by a countdown clock, and has a chance of attracting enemies.

    • Combat: If enemies appear, players engage in turn-based combat. Defeat forces the Wanderbot to retreat and the loss of collected items.

  4. Resource Management:

    • Shield Management: Players can find and use items during the expedition to restore shield charges.

    • Health and Energy: Players must manage their Wanderbot's health and energy, using found or purchased items to stay mobile.

  5. Return to Outpost:

    • Extraction Point: Once players have gathered enough resources or their Wanderbot is low on health/energy, they must navigate to an extraction point to safely return to the outpost.

    • Rewards: Successful extraction grants players the resources and artifacts found during the expedition. These can be used to upgrade the outpost, craft new items, or trade with other players.

  6. Losing Condition:

    • Shield Failure: If a player's shields are all destroyed and they cannot deploy a new one, their Wanderbot becomes vulnerable to environmental damage or enemy attacks, leading to Wanderbot retreat and loss of the expedition.

Key Features:

  • Procedural Generation: Ensures each expedition map is unique, enhancing replayability.

  • Resource and Shield Management: Adds a strategic layer to exploration, making players balance risk and reward. Players can find and use items to restore health, energy, or shield charges during the expedition.

  • Turn-Based Combat: Simple and engaging, providing a break from exploration and a chance to earn additional rewards.

  • Progression System: Players can upgrade their Wanderbot's equipment, making subsequent expeditions easier and more rewarding.

Example Flow Diagram:
